Overview
Asian Development Bank (ADB) is an international development finance institution headquartered in Manila, Philippines and is composed of 67 members, 48 of which are from the Asia and Pacific region. ADB’s mission is to reduce poverty and promote sustainable economic growth in the region. ADB’s main instruments for helping its developing member countries are policy dialogue, loans, equity investments, guarantees, grants, and technical assistance.
The position is assigned in the Nepal Resident Mission (NRM) within the South Asia Department (SARD). SARD is responsible for providing leadership innovation, lending, project implementation and knowledge sharing for ADB’s sector and thematic work that covers operations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. NRM is supporting the Government of Nepal’s development objective of accelerated, sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Job Purpose
The Senior External Relations Assistant will be responsible to assist in the timely dissemination of information to local and international media, executing agencies (EAs), host government agencies and non-government organizations (NGOs) regarding ADB and its operation to enhance resident mission’s (RM’s) external relations and public profile; to provide translation and interpretation service for the RM. The incumbent will report to a designated International Staff and/or senior National Staff.
Responsibilities
• Assists in the timely dissemination of information about ADB and its operations in host country;
• Assists in developing a media package, both print and multi-media for RM, and coordinates ADB’s media report and interviews in host country;
• Maintain and updates contact database of media, NGOs/civil society organizations and ADB’s key audiences;
• Assists in preparation of publications and other outreach materials; and storing and keeping up-to-date resources (presentations, slide shows, photos, CDs, other forms of communications);
• Assists the External Relations Officer in coordinating RM’s external relations and the publicity of ADB’s operational achievements in host country; liaison with NGOs; and maintaining a good communication environment for RM and host government departments, partners, clients and other related organizations. Provides administrative support to the External Relations Unit;
• Translates documents from local dialect to English and from English to local dialect to facilitate RM to undertake its professional work;
• Assists in the updating of bilingual information on the home page;
• Coordinates and proof-reads the out-sourced translation;
• Interprets for RM seminars, meetings, interviews, etc.; and
• Performs any other duties as required and reflected in the incumbent’s workplan.
Qualifications
Relevant Experience and Requirements
• Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Public Affairs or related field.
• At least 5-year relevant professional experience in communication and media relations or relevant fields.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with individuals from different cultural and national backgrounds.
• Good computer skills with sound knowledge of common word-processing, spreadsheets and graphics software and database management.
• Familiarity with local languages and institutions.
• Good writing and speaking skills in English are essential.
• Proven ability to work independently and set own work priorities.
• Able to work collaboratively with teams as a constructive team member.
